Will the Elastic Snap? Everyday Care for a Beaded Bracelet

Will the Elastic Snap? Everyday Care for a Beaded Bracelet

The elastic is the weak point, not the stone

Stone is harder than almost anything it will touch. The elastic cord is what fails. Understanding how it fails is most of the care routine.

What actually kills elastic

RM1 Rolling a bracelet on and off over a wide part of the hand stretches the cord every time. Open your hand narrow and slide it on — do not roll it over the knuckles.

RM1 Elastic is fine with a splash. What degrades it is repeated soaking combined with soap, lotion, sunscreen and hand sanitiser. Those work into the cord and the drill holes.

RM1 Both put unpredictable tension on the cord for hours at a time.

RM1 Even well-treated elastic ages. Two to three years of daily wear is a normal life. Restringing is cheap and quick — it is maintenance, not failure.

Four habits

  1. Take it off with two hands, from the narrowest part of your wrist.
  2. Take it off before showering, swimming, the gym, and sleeping.
  3. Put lotion and sunscreen on first, let it absorb, then put the bracelet on.
  4. Store it flat in the cotton pouch, not hanging and not stretched over something.

Cleaning

Soft dry cloth. That is it. For visible grime, barely damp cloth, then dry immediately. No salt water, no ultrasonic cleaner, no hot water.

Storage

Flat, separately, out of direct sun. Stones vary in hardness — a quartz bead will scratch a softer stone if they are tumbled together in a drawer. That is why every piece ships in its own pouch.

If it does break

Beads scatter but rarely chip — stone is tough. Gather them, put them in the pouch, and message us. If it is within a reasonable period we will restring it for you. If you are far away we will talk you through it; it takes about fifteen minutes with 0.8mm elastic from any craft shop.
